Groundskeeper – Seasonal (approximately three months)

Wages/Hours: $13.80 per hour
40 hours per week - Applicant must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays.

Position Description:  Performs semi-skilled work under limited supervision.  Responsible for assisting in the maintenance/repair of the Town’s parks, buildings, and grounds.  Mows, trims, weeds, prunes, and aerates public grounds/parks.  Assists in the collection of litter and cleaning of park restrooms.  Helps prepare facilities for events as requested.

Minimum Qualifications:
1.  High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
2.  Must be able to understand/execute written/oral instruction.
3.  One year experience in parks/grounds/building maintenance and repair.
4.  Possession of a valid Washington State Driver’s License / good driving record.

Physical Requirements:  This position requires the incumbent to perform strenuous physical labor in a safe manner.  This position involves being able to work at ground level as well as heights normally accessed by ladder.  The incumbent must be able to transverse uneven terrain as the worksite is the outdoor environment.  The position requires the employee to work in inclement weather.  There is frequent exposure to loud noises, extreme heat/cold, and hazardous materials.

Terms of Employment: This is a full time seasonal position.  The position is not eligible to receive benefits and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Title: Recreation Aide – Summer Camp
4 Temporary Positions

Wage/Hours: $10.59 Hr.
June – August / Monday - Friday
Position 1:  7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Position 2:  9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Positions 3 & 4:  1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
(All positions will be required to work extended hours on Thursdays to chaperone fieldtrips.)

Position Description:  Supervise, monitor, evaluate, and assess program participants.  Direct and participate in program activities to include:  arts and crafts, sports, games, drama, and music.

Minimum Qualifications:
1.  High school graduation/GED equivalent.
2.  One year experience working with elementary age children in a structured program.
3.  CPR and Basic First Aid Certification (able to obtain within an agreed/specified
     period of time).
4.  Washington State Driver’s License / Good driving record.
5.  Food Handler’s License (able to obtain within an agreed/specified period of time).

Prefer:  Experience working with children in a preschool, before/after school program or summer camp program.

Physical Requirements:  Driving, walking, running, standing, sitting, squatting,
kneeling, ability to lift up to 30 pounds, set up tables/chairs, and interact with children in
physical exercise, sports, and games. The incumbent must be able to transverse uneven
terrain as activities are frequently conducted in an outdoor environment. 

Terms of Employment:  The Summer Camp program is self-funding.  Participant enrollment must support program costs.  Hours worked will be determined by program participation.

Public Safety Administrative Assistant (Records/Evidence)
$18.67 - $21.85 (hourly range) / 40 hours per week

Position Description:  The Administrative Assistant processes/maintains law enforcement reports and records.  The incumbent processes requests for police reports and other information. This position is responsible for evidence/property control. The incumbent keeps informed of new law/rule/regulation changes, and is familiar with records retention/destruction schedules. The incumbent manages daily administrative functions supporting public safety operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
1.  High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
2.  Two years recent experience in office administration.
3.  One year recent experience in records management utilizing personal computers and involving public contact.
4.  Proficient in word processing (computer keyboarding at 50 wpm-net) and spreadsheet formulation.
5.  Bondable
6.  Background free of criminal record as established/determined by general police practice.

     Prefer:  Prior experience in a public safety environment.

Physical Requirements:  Must be able to maneuver in an office environment.  The employee is infrequently required to lift/move objects weighing up to 30 pounds.  The incumbent experiences prolonged visual exposure to a computer monitor.  This position requires manual dexterity sufficient to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and a variety of office equipment.  The employee must be able to give/receive/understand written/oral communication and give clear written/oral instruction. 

Terms of Employment:  This position is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Examination Process:  Those applicants whose qualifications most closely correspond to the Town’s needs will be required to take a written examination.  Those passing the written examination and whose qualifications most closely correspond to the Town’s needs may be invited to appear before an oral review panel.  Applicants passing the oral review panel may be scheduled for a department interview.  The successful candidate must pass a background investigation.

Public Safety Officer (Police/Fire/EMS)
LATERAL ENTRY - The Town of Steilacoom is establishing an eligibility list for Lateral Entry Public Safety Officer. Public Safety Officers are cross trained in law enforcement, firefighting and as emergency medical technicians. Applicants must be 21 years of age at time of appointment, U.S. citizen, High School graduate/GED, able to read and write the English language and possess a valid Washington Driver’s License at the time of appointment. Applicants for Lateral Entry must be currently employed, for at least one year, as a commissioned police officer or firefighter and must have successfully completed a Basic Law Enforcement Academy or Firefighting Academy.
